Luxury handbags are often classic, iconic designs that are built to last – and so are the materials that they are made from. It’s fine if you have a day bag or an inexpensive handbag that you don’t mind wearing-and-tearing daily at work, for example – but these are made from materials such as plastic or cotton that aren’t built to last – after all, when fashions change or if you lose it, you can get another one.
At the other end of the spectrum is the “must have”, chic luxury bag – one you wear to impress, one that matches your outfit and exudes glamour. Very often, this will be made from leather. Even if you’re rightly concerned about sustainability and environmental impact, most luxury leathers are produced responsibly and to the highest standards, so you don’t have to compromise.
Leather is built to last as long as the iconic design it takes the shape of. It’s waterproof, hard-wearing and even looks better with age (and not many materials do). It’s also got the je ne sais quoi of materials – it exudes luxury because it’s tactile, it smells good and it requires very little maintenance.
If you’re into luxury and you’re into classic pieces that are built to last – choose leather. It may not be as inexpensive as that colourful, cheaper bag designed for frequent use, but it will always get you the attention and classic style you deserve. What’s more, leather is often for life – and can be handed down for the ultimate vintage chic look.
