Who Can Be An EDMR Trainer?

In order to sign up for EDMR Training UK, a background in mental health is an absolute necessity. Without an already thorough grasp of the biology of the brain and how it works, EDMR will make little sense and most likely confuse more than it will teach. EDMR is an advanced technique which must be applied correctly to truly deliver proper results, so it is absolutely necessary that for any EDMR course the trainee must have qualifications and accreditation in the field. However, the type of mental health professionals who can train in EDMR is really rather large and it includes those with a background in psychiatry, social work with mental and clinical psychology and mental health nursing.

When it comes to psychotherapists, counselors  occupational therapists and art therapists, there are possibilities. Psychotherapists and counselors must have an accreditation by one of the following bodies: MCS (Acc), UKCP, BACP, BABCP, FDAP, BSCH, IACT or another known institution. Occupational and art therapists need to have specific training in mental health but sufficient evidence must be provided. This will most likely be treated on a case by case basis where experience talks the loudest. GP’s registered with the General Medical Council can also choose to do the course if they have experience with psychotherapy and psychological trauma in particular. They must be an accredited psychotherapist, counselor or be working towards such an accreditation. The final group of people are those who are in the final year of their training in a related field, so long as they can show that they have completed the course.
