Most homes in the UK now contain at least one laptop. These devices take up less space than traditional PCs and they are also portable, offering their owners much greater convenience and flexibility.
If and when these devices break down, their owners can feel a sense of panic. They might rely on the technology to enable them to complete their work and to help them keep in touch with friends and family. Also, many people use the devices for entertainment, to conduct research and to shop.
Budgets Under Strain
However, sourcing replacement versions can be easier said than done. Household budgets are under strain, with incomes remaining depressed and inflation on the rise. This means that many individuals do not have lots of cash to spare.
Luckily for these consumers, there are bargains to be found in cyberspace. As long as they know where to look, people can find inexpensive refurbished laptops for sale.
Stats Highlight The Plight of UK Consumers
Research conducted by uSwitch recently highlighted the scale of the financial challenges facing UK consumers. It found that nearly a quarter (23 per cent) of the people it polled just about break even at the end of each month. This leaves them with no contingency money for unforeseen emergencies, such as the breakdown of household equipment.
Meanwhile, seven per cent of respondents were spending more than they earned, with 37 per cent of these relying on their overdrafts, 28 per cent using their savings and 23 per cent adding debt to their credit cards to help plug the gap.
The organisation also revealed that 54 per cent of Brits are struggling to make ends meet and have therefore had to cut back on everyday essentials, while a quarter are spending less on food and 19 per cent have reduced their fuel consumption.
A Fine Line
Responding to the findings, personal finance expert at uSwitch Michael Ossei commented: “When it comes to balancing the books, we are treading a fine line. It will only take an unexpected price hike or emergency at home to push us over the edge and into the debt spiral.
“For consumers, everything is shooting up except their income. Unprecedented hikes in essential bills such as food and energy are forming an increasingly large hole in people’s pockets. The shock increase in the consumer price index in November will do nothing to help the situation – we are facing a winter of discontent. With one in four consumers struggling to repay debt from last year, it’s vital that they look for the best ways to save themselves money.”
A Savvy Approach
By being shrewd and making savings where possible, consumers may be able to keep their spending down to a minimum without this having too detrimental an impact on their quality of life.
For example, rather than relying on old, ineffective laptops or even making do without these products entirely, individuals might benefit from seeking factory refurbished laptops. There are some impressive deals available over the web and, as long as they know where to look, people should be able to find versions that meet all their practical needs.
