As industry evolves so too does our use of plastics increase. Plastic is a cornerstone material in modern industry and without the use of plastic many industries would lose their efficacy and many others would cease altogether. Plastics can exceed the performance of other materials, such as metal, and as such the use of plastic is widespread.
The term “plastic” is of course a very broad church and it really is the case that there’s a plastic for anything. We can say this because plastic, as a manufactured material, can be made with very specific properties, tailored to certain applications. In other words, plastic can be adapted to function rather than having to adapt function to plastic.
One of the most functional plastics, and one of the most valuable to industry, is Peek plastics. Peek plastics is one of the most high performance plastics available, in fact it can easily match and beat the performance of other materials, including metals.
Peek plastic is a linear aromatic polymer, in simpler terms this means that one of its strengths is that it can stand the extreme heat of 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Why is this significant? Well previously, metal was considered the only material that could withstand such extreme temperatures.
Another advantage of plastics in general is that they tend to be more designer friendly, being more versatile and malleable. Also, something like Peek plastics can be coloured easily using pigmentation methods – ideal for producing coloured, high performance products.
