Cats are complex and at times enigmatic creatures. While they can be affectionate and amusing, they also have the potential to be aloof and mysterious. Because of this owners can find it tricky to spot any health problems that arise.
However, there are certain key indicators for people to look out for and by keeping a close eye on their feline companions, they should succeed in detecting any medical issues quickly. This is important because the sooner problems are discovered and treated, they better the outcomes can be for the creatures involved.
For example, owners may need to take their cats to the vet if they repeatedly suffer from sickness or diarrhoea. Also, a loss of appetite can be a worrying sign, as can a tendency to drink much more or less than normal. In addition, a lack of energy or excessive sleeping might be a sign of problems.
Other anomalies for owners to watch out for include a sudden weight change in either direction, unusual swellings, skin conditions, coughing, running eyes or nose and unusual bleeding. Also, if the creatures limp or show signs of pain, like sensitivity to touch, it may be time for their owners to take them to the vet.
In many cases, pet cats may require only basic care, or indeed no treatment at all. However, there is a possibility that they will need more serious interventions. Thankfully, the range of treatments now available to cats is immense and it is growing all the time.
