Pets can be very fussy when it comes to food but this isn’t necessarily a matter of choice like it is with many people. While owners may know that the ingredients within a certain animal feed is not going to be harmful, the pet might in fact be completely closed off to the idea of a particular type of pet food. There have been many cases where cats, for instance, will eat chicken but only from a particular butcher – is this an instance where the cat can perceive more than the human? Not necessarily, since it may be entirely about food and what is present within it. A bad experience with a particular taste can put any person or animal off a particular type of food (although this doesn’t explain why so many children are against vegetables!).
As long as the owner finds a type of food that has some evidence behind its clinical claims of healthiness, then it should be trustworthy. For instance, those foods offered by Hill’s Pet™ are qualified by a scientific council which have validated that the food itself will be of a basic nutritional value and beyond. Buying some of their food produce will be a good bet even though there is no accounting for taste. Many cats and dogs will simply not eat a type of food because of the way it tastes, which is something that is difficult to change. Any good food manufacturer, however, will produce a diverse number of foods which are worth trying to see whether the pet will enjoy them.
