Official figures from the Health and Social Care Information Centre have shown that breastfeeding is on the rise, with eight in ten women now breastfeeding their babies, if only for a short time. This number has risen from three quarters in 2005.
It was revealed that those most likely to breastfeed were aged over 30, those from ethnic minority groups, those living in more affluent areas, and those who stayed in education beyond the age of 18. One third of women said they were still breastfeeding when the child was six months old, and those who said they had stopped breastfeeding wished they had continued for longer. These results follow a campaign by the Department of Health to encourage breastfeeding as the natural way of feeding babies.
Of course, if you’re thinking of breastfeeding, it’s important you’re prepared. As well as equipment you may want, such as a breast pump (in case you don’t want to feed in public, or for any other reason), you also need to consider purchasing the right breastfeeding clothes. There are a huge number of options when it comes to nursing wear, and much of it is much more flattering than you think. You can pick up loungewear, warm knitwear and even gorgeous dresses that allow easy breastfeeding and can cover up post-natal tums, whilst also remaining immensely stylish.
If you intend on being part of the breastfeeding boom, ensure you’re fully kitted out with all the breastfeeding clothing and equipment you need and enjoy this special time with your child.
