The global population is more-or-less doubling every five years. This obviously means there is less and less space to play with, especially in urban environments. However, even limited space can be extended with a bit of creative thinking. Here are three of the most clever, and modern, uses of space in contemporary cities.
Urban gardens. Many people who live in smaller spaces assume they have to sacrifice green spaces, i.e. gardens. However, there is a modern trend for idiosyncratic garden spaces, such as roof or balcony gardens. Plant life is extremely versatile and can grow practically anywhere, and so you should always find space for certain blooms.
Speaking of gardens, if you are lucky enough to own a garden space then you might consider using this space more creatively. For example you can consider garden rooms or garden studios, which can be erected very easily and are, these days, likely to be sustainable. They can be used for garden offices, living spaces; any extra space that your home is crying out for.
If you don’t have a garden space and you’re home is limited to the four or five rooms, or perhaps less, that comprises your living space, you can still make better use of areas. Perhaps give some rooms double functionality, a guest room might become a home office, living room might double up as dining space etc.
