Puppies and kittens are inquisitive little creatures who like to explore their environment and make their own entertainment, which probably includes chewing whatever they can get their paws on. Of course, this could be majorly hazardous to their health, causing illness, injury and could even lead to death. Kittens and puppies, if they don’t have a safe place of their own to retreat to, can crawl into small, dark spaces if they are scared or frightened. If you notice that you haven’t seen your pets in a while, check in any cupboards or small spaces in case they have got stuck. Being stuck somewhere could cause the animal stress and anxiety, so keep an eye and ear out if things are suspiciously quiet.
If your animal has access to your kitchen, or a utility room, make sure that doors to tumble dryers and washing machines are kept closed at all times. Small animals like to curl up in warm places, so a tumble dryer will be especially appealing. Always check the machines before using them in case they have snuck in whilst you weren’t looking.
If you have small children in the house, you will be used to keeping household chemicals out of sight and out of reach. You should take the same precautions when you have a puppy or kitten around as they are likely to explore and investigate. They may even eat or drink the chemicals if the tops are not on securely which could cause your pet some major problems.
