Shops come in all shapes and sizes and retail designers often have a tough job trying to come up with an effective design concept for a small store. Squeezing in all your stock without the place taking on a cluttered appearance isn’t easy. Discuss the best way forward with a quality retail design agency, but in the meantime here are some top tips for making the most of the little space you have.
1. Be Careful with Wall Design
Applying a jazzy wallpaper to all of your wall surfaces is going to make the shop appear even smaller, but creating a feature wall can be an effective means of giving the illusion of more space. Wallpaper or a bright paint on a single wall can make the room look larger.
2. Make the Most of Windows
If you’re lucky enough to have a large store window, this is great for giving the appearance of a larger shop. Don’t cut the window area off by keeping it as a window display area which is hidden from inside the store – this is effectively removing the window and creating an extra wall. Add in plenty of mirrors on the other walls to reflect light – these will also come in handy for customers wanting to try items on.
3. Increase Vertical Space
As well as making the most of your floor space, remember that you also have a lot of vertical space which you can use. While placing items consistently out of customers’ reach isn’t advised, placing items at different levels is a great way of making the room look larger and taller.
