Any company who runs a warehouse has high overheads. Those overheads always go up, never down, so remaining profitable can be difficult.
However, there are ways to reduce warehouse running costs. One of the simplest is to buy used kit instead of new kit.
A new forklift can cost anywhere between £10,000 and £50,000. The cost varies widely and depends on how the truck is powered, its reach, capacity and how specialised it is.
Used forklifts can be picked up for a fraction of the cost, with prices starting as low as £3,500. Typically, firms who buy used forklifts will save at least 50% on the purchase price. This is a lot of money, so represents a considerable long term cost saving.
In addition, it helps cash flow. Less of a firm’s capital is tied up in shop floor equipment. This money can be put to good use marketing and growing the business.
How Reliable Is A Used Forklift?
Many firms are put off buying a used truck because they think that they will be less reliable than a new truck. Of course, there is wear and tear, but most trucks come with a 12-month warranty.
Forklifts are sturdy pieces of kit that rarely break down. Provided they are properly maintained, it is easy to spot emerging problems and fix them before the truck actually breaks down. There are plenty of cheap, good quality second hand or refurbished parts available, so maintaining a used forklift need not be expensive. In fact it can work out cheaper than maintaining a new one.
