Using shelving in either the home or workplace can offer a solution to organisational and storage problems. They can hold many different items ranging from books, CD’s or filing systems. However, it is always important to consider where the bookshelves will be placed and to address any issues the position and design of a shelving unit may pose.
For instance, certain styles of bookcase need additional considerations. Tall, shallow shelving is often liable to tip over if too many items are placed on it. It is therefore important that these type of units are secured firmly to the wall to prevent them falling over and causing an accident. Wall fixings can be purchased, which will fasten the shelves safely to the wall.
Another consideration is how even the floor is. If a floor is not level, it will be difficult to place certain types of units steadily. Long length shelving may be difficult to assemble on an uneven floor, it may be more appropriate therefore to use narrower shelves if the ground is irregular. Bespoke shelving units can also be built to very specific specifications and can be constructed around items which may be inconvenient or difficult to move such as radiators or power points. To add additional strength to bookcases, backboards or cross braces can be used. If a unit is difficult to fix to a wall for instance, the cross brace can add extra stability whereas, the backboard can be used even when the shelving unit can be secured to a partition.
